| – is inextricably linked culturally and ancestrally to Dresden. As the village architect, Charlie’s studio shared 811 Main Street from the 1950s up until the 1990s. His archive of personal work, as well as records of other residents’ artistic achievements, has been critical in guiding PRACTICE. In a dedicated focus on place and experimentation, often spawned from travel, his work is a complex and unattributed link to the minimalist movement, and forward further towards artists such as Gordon Matta-Clark. Much of his work was left as sketches or models. In his forthcoming exhibit Hollers, Charlie belatedly arches mid-century painting to notions of the Appalachian landscape. |
